Senior Congress leader Ambika Soni said, "This is not a normal thing, how did he get the permission? I have never heard before that a foreign film company can interview an accused of heinous crime at its will. This is a very big lapse and whoever is responsible should be held accountable," she said.
Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Barkha Shukla Singh has expressed surprise over the entry of the television crew inside the jail premises adding that the country had already "earned infamy due to the Nirbhaya case".
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia raised questions over the idea of journalism behind the interview that has kicked up a furore.
"The fundamental question here is that journalism is for bringing out necessary things before the society and the country. Who would like to know why they killed the girl. Don't we know he is a rapist," he said.
