HC seeks response on petition seeking testing of bullet-proof

The Allahabad High Court today sought the responses of the the central and state governments' in a matter of testing of standards of bullet-proof jackets to be provided to army troops, paramilitary forces and top police officers.
A division bench of justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi and justice Attau Rahman Masoodi here passed the order on a public interest litigation (PIL) petition filed by a local lawyer Piyush Sharma.
According to the petitioner, such jackets are to be provided to them from August, 2016 which should be tested on the standards of American National Institute of Justice(NIJ).
He submitted that this testing is necessary as the issue is related to lives of the soldiers and police personnel.

The petitioner also sought directions for making rules and regulations for testing (quality and reliability testing) of the arms and ammunitions being made available to civilian arms licence-holders.
He claimed that at present there are no such Act and rules for the testing of such arms and ammunition.
The court directed to list the matter next week, the petitioner said.
The central and the state governments' counsel sought time to seek instructions on the matter, which was granted by the court.
