Known for spending long hours in the Lok Sabha, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge today got annoyed when the treasury benches accused his party of raising the quorum issue while prompting its members to leave the House.
"Minister can't cast aspersions against my party. I don't tolerate all this," said an agitated Kharge who was about to leave the House as there was no quorum but returned to his seat after hearing comments from Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
During the debate on the Finance Bill, certain members raised the issue of lack of quorum as sufficient number of members were not present in the House.
However, ruling party members trooped into the House after ringing of the quorum bell, much to the comfort of the government.
Accusing the Opposition Congress of raising the issue and prompting the members to leave the house, Rudy said such a practice was not in the interest of the democracy.
Kharge, known for actively participating in debates in the Lok Sabha, said he came to Parliament at 9.30 in the morning and had no problem in staying late but wanted to leave as there was no quorum in the House.
