Heat wave toll rises to 1875

Heat wave claimed 49 more deaths in Telangana since yesterday, raising the countrywide toll to 1875 as the scorching blaze continued continued to sweep many parts with Bhawanipatna in Odisha today recording the highest temperature of 46.5 degrees celsius.
Delhi recorded 42 degrees celsius while Kota in Rajasthan saw the temperature of 44.6 degrees celsius followed by 43.9 in capital Jaipur.
Punjab and Haryana also saw temperature in the range of 40-44 degrees Celsius at most of the places.
Telangana, one of the two worst hit states after Andhra Pradesh, saw the toll rising to 489 today from 440 yesterday.
"As per information available till 5 pm today, the toll (in Telangana) has risen to 489," said a senior official of the Telangana disaster management department in Hyderabad.
The death toll in the state since April 15 stood at 440.
Nalgonda district has witnessed the maximum of 126 deaths, followed by Karimnagar (95), Khammam (92), Mahabubnagar (37), besides 35 each in Medak and Ranga Reddy districts.
The heat wave has also claimed 22 lives in Adilabad, 20 in Warangal, 17 in Nizamabad and 10 in Hyderabad.
According to the India Meteorological Department, heat wave conditions prevailed over many parts in the districts of Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam and Nalgonda of Telangana.
Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of 46 degrees Celsius was recorded at Khammam and Nalgonda.
In Andhra Pradesh, the toll yesterday stood at 1334. In Odisha, 43 people had reportedly died due to heat wave, seven in Gujarat and two in Delhi.
