District Collector P Shankar declared holiday for schools and colleges, considering non-stop rains across the district, official sources said.
Meanwhile, a 43-year old woman, Kalpana was washed away when she tried to cross a bridge due to sudden spate in the Mayar, near Kothagiri today, police said.
Search is on for her, they said.
Some eight houses were partially damaged in the rains at Kothagiri, while two parked cars were damaged when two trees fell on it near Coonoor railway station.
The administration also alerted people living in low lying areas on the rising water level and officials were asked to gear up to accommodate villagers in community halls and schools.
