The first year student of a private college at Madanapalle was admitted to a Government hospital under mysterious circumstances by the home guard last night and she died at midnight, police said, adding, he was taken into custody for questioning today.
Local politicians and the victim's parents suspected that she was raped and seriously injured by the home guard and tension prevailed for some time after they demanded the arrest of the guilty.
The body was handed over to the parents after autopsy, police said.
