A district police officer said four persons died at Tamluk Hospital this evening, taking the toll to 13 in one of the worst cases of illicit liquor deaths in the state in recent times.
The deceased hailed from Narikeldaha, Kiyarana and two adjoining villages in Moyna police station limits in the district who fell ill after allegedly consuming the liquor two days ago at some local hooch joints, the officer said.
Meanwhile, a mob today ransacked four hooch joints and set two others aflame in Moyna police station area.
Series of raids were on at different places in and around Moyna Tehsil in connection with the hooch tragedy and several people were detained for their alleged role in distribution of the spurious liquor, the officer said.
