The officer, along with four other persons, has been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment ranging from one year to 39 months by the Special Judge, Rohini Courts, CBI said in a statement today.
IAS officer Narayan Diwakar of 1986 batch, the then Registrar of Co-operative Societies, was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment of 21 months while the then Assistant Registrar Yogi Raj, the then dealing assistant Niranjan Singh and the then inspector Faiz Mohammed will undergo one year each of rigorous imprisonment, the agency said.
CBI had registered a case in 2006 against Diwakar and others on the orders of Delhi High Court directing the agency to conduct an investigation in the matter relating to 135 cooperative Group Housing Societies.
It was alleged that during the year 2002-03, Diwakar and other officers of RCS had entered into a criminal conspiracy with one Srichand and other unidentified persons for reviving a defunct society, namely SIEMENS Co-operative Group Housing Society.
