CPI today demanded a CBI probe into the contents of a diary purportedly recovered from a Birla group office during searches carried out by the investigating agency, saying it exposed the corporate-politician- bureaucratic nexus in the country.
Quoting media reports, the CPI Central Secretariat said the diary contained names of about 100 political leaders and MPs who had allegedly received payments in the last 10 years.
"CPI demands that the diary names should be released to the public. There should be a thorough inquiry by CBI on the benefits obtained by Birla House with this corruption and on the activities of those who received money. Stringent action is needed on this affair," a CPI statement said.
The diary was recovered during the CBI's searches in mid- October from the offices of the Birla group following its FIR alleging corruption in the coal scam.
CPI said the Left parties have been expressing concern over the corporate-politician-bureaucratic nexus in the country as a result of the neo-liberal economic policies pursued by the government.
"This episode once again reminds the necessity of strong Lokpal bill which should cover corporate and business houses," the party said.
