Emphasising on the importance of "Indological studies", Spanish professor Javier Ruiz Calderon today said in the west less philosophers know about India but the situation is not the same with Indian philosophers.
"In west, less philosophers know about Indian and Chinese philosophy but in India many philosophers knows both about the west and India. I believe, Indology can ensure some help to study and master the philosophy of India for all," Calderon said while addressing the students of Delhi University here.
DU's Sanskrit Department along with the Indian Council for Culture Relations (ICCR) today hosted foreign scholars who are on a visit to India to participate in the World Indology Conference at Rashtrapati Bhawan which concluded today.
Terming Sanskrit as a classical Indian language, Calderon said this language is a very precious gift which gives us the essence of Indian civilisation from the root level and helps us to know each other better.
German professor, F H Von Stietencron, said, "There are a large number of students in this hall itself, I believe each one of you should contribute to make it internationally acclaimed by doing some good research work."
ICCR Prof Lokesh Chandra said, "Sanskrit is not only a language but it is a subject where the relationship between man and nature have been discussed."
He also urged the Ministry of External Affairs to organise a Sanskrit conference abroad to spread knowledge about the subject.
A tab, developed and gifted by a Chinese Prof Yu Long Yu, which helps to know the Chinese culture and it is also equipped with the sutras of 100 paradigms, was also presented to the department of Chinese Language and Literature of Delhi University during the conference.
Emphasising on the fact that globalisation has changed the entire concept of learning, DU professor Anand Prakesh said, "Earlier it was not possible to connect with the experts from other countries easily but now the world is one learning community.
