Incessant rainfall has triggered massive mudslides at Phesama village near Kisama Naga Heritage Village, around 10 kms from the state capital on the National Highway 2 early this morning.
The road is the lifeline of neighbouring Manipur state and other nearby areas.
Due to continuous mudslides vehicles are getting stuck, leading to a massive traffic congestion and pile up of more than 200 vehicles on both sides, district officials said.
Police, District Administration, BRO, NCC Volunteers from St Joseph College Jakhama and Phesama Youth Organisation are working hard to clear the road.
Meanwhile, president of Phesama Youth Organisation, Medokolie, has requested all heavy vehicles not to ply along the route till the road is cleared and has also requested taxi drivers not to hike fares.
Further, vehicles carrying dead bodies or sick people have been asked to inform the volunteers so that alternate vehicles can be arranged, the official added.
