The current proposal aimed at bringing "stability in administration to ensure adequate time period to take up developmental activities" has drawn flak from a group of doctors who have termed it as "illegal and ridiculous".
"Where will the young graduates and post-graduates go if the older one's keep getting an extension," said an AIIMS doctor.
Moreover, the group of doctors under the banner Forum for Rights and Equality had written to the Election Commission of India recently demanding that the "extra-ordinary" Institute body and Governing body meetings scheduled for May 12 should be postponed as the model code of conduct is in force and the elections results will be out on May 16.
Altogether 43 faculty members, including senior professors, would be retiring between 2014 and 2017 and there is shortage of senior and experienced medical teaching faculty at the institute.
