Looking to promote India as a destination for foreign film producers to hold film shoots, a delegation from the country is visiting the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada.
Officials in the Information and Broadcasting ministry said that the delegation, led by ministry secretary Bimal Julka, will explore the scope for the pooling of creative, artistic, technical, financial and marketing resources for co-production in order to globally showcase India's 'soft power'.
The visit by the delegation assumes importance in the light of the Audio-Visual Co-Production Agreement which was signed recently between India and Canada.
The agreement enables Indian and Canadian film producers to collaborate on various aspects of film-making.
It also provides a platform for engagement between the critical stakeholders of the film industries of both countries.
The visit is expected to chart out a roadmap for the funding of co-production projects in the future and boost the export of Indian films across film markets, including the Canadian market.
The delegation is expected to apprise stakeholders of the progress achieved so far in expediting the single-window clearance mechanism in India.
It will be discussing policy and institutional collaboration matters with a variety of stakeholders. Julka will also be holding discussions with Telefilm Canada as a step towards further cementing Indo-Canadian ties in film co-production.
Julka will also take part in extensive deliberations with Canada's National Film Board, which is the public producer and distributor of films in Canada.
