India today pledged to provide NPR 47.3 million for the renovation and restoration of various sites of historical and cultural importance in Nepal's Lalitpur district.
An MoU was signed between the Embassy of India here, Nepal's Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC), and the Society for Development of Lalitpur for providing grant assistance of NPR (Nepalese Rupees) 11.14 million for the renovation and restoration of sites of historical and cultural importance in Lalitpur district, according to a press release by the Indian Embassy.
The project includes the renovation and restoration of Ganga Pokhari and Shree Mahanyan Boudha Samaj Gumba and remodelling of its temple, compound wall and gate.
Government of India will also provide NPR 36.16 million for restoration of six other sites of historical and cultural importance in Lalitpur district, for which the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed shortly, the release said.
The project underlines the importance accorded by India to the preservation and promotion of the rich cultural and historical heritage of Nepal, which is in the spirit of the strong and close bonds between the two countries, it said.
In addition to this project, three projects in Lalitpur District have already been completed with Indian grant assistance of NPR 85.2 million and work is ongoing on three more projects at a cost of NPR 83.04 million.
India has also gifted 10 ambulances and 6 school buses for use in the district, it said.
