Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra feels Indian awards system has improved and recognises talent now.
Mishra, who is known to maintain distance from popular award shows, said the fact that films like "Talvar" and "Masaan' have bagged trophies proves quality is being recognised by people.
"Indian awards have become better now. They have started valuing quality. People like Neeraj Ghaywan are getting honoured and movies like 'Masaan' and 'Talvar' are getting awards so it is a good sign," Mishra told PTI.
The ace director was speaking on the sidelines of second Times of India Film Awards (TOIFA 2016), slated to take place tonight.
Mishra is gearing up for his next release, "Dasdev", a modern adaptation of Saratchandra's classic Devdas".
When asked why he chose this story, the filmmaker said, "I liked the idea of taking these three and playing with it. It is a political thriller with romantic element of Dev-Paro. Devdas is a story of a Dev becoming a 'Das' of his addiction. This is a story of a Das becoming a Dev. It is a reverse journey."
The makers are looking to release the film this June or July, Mishra added.
"We are looking at a date where no big film is coming," he said.
"Dasdev" stars "Ugly" actor Rahul Bhat, Aditi Rao Hyadri and Richa Chadha in lead roles.
