In view of prevailing unrest in eastern Ukraine, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv today advised Indian students planning to return for their new academic year in institutions in the areas in that country, to postpone their travel.
The Embassy has asked students planning to return in the first half of August to their educational institutions in Donetsk and Lugansk regions, for the new academic year commencing in September, to postpone their travel plans and await the Embassy's advice in this regard.
"India's Embassy in Kyiv advises students to postpone plans 2 return 2 Eastern Ukraine for academic year in September," spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs Syed Akbaruddin tweeted.
In its advisory, the Embassy also said that it was in touch with the relevant Ukrainian authorities regarding the rapidly evolving security situation and issues relating to the safety and security of the students, their transfer to other universities in Ukraine and related issues.
The Embassy has asked students to monitor its website to know of any developments in this regard.
In addition, Indians in Ukraine, especially students, are urged to register themselves on the Embassy's website and provide necessary contact details therein, the advisory said.
Prospective students who are planning to study in Ukraine should factor in the above inputs and decide appropriately, it said.
