Irrigation sector is going to be a huge priority of the incoming Telangana Rashtra Samithi government, a key party leader said Tuesday.
On the focus and thrust of the new government expected to be sworn in this week, K T Rama Rao, son of caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, pointed to a lot of ongoing projects.
"Irrigation has to be a huge priority because we have given the people of Telangana a categorical commitment that we will ensure one crore acres of land will be irrigated in Telangana," Rama Rao told PTI after his party coasted to a landslide victory.
"That's going to be a top priority and then urban and rural infrastructure and health and education," Rama Rao, considered number two in the party, said.
He said the party was very grateful to the people of Telangana for reposing faith in it, and indebted to them.
"It was an overwhelming victory as we had anticipated and I am delighted the people of Telangana chose to ignore the rhetoric of unholy nexus of the Congress and TDP and given us the mandate," Rama Rao, who was a key minister in the TRS government, said.
On reasons for the TRS victory, he attributed them to "fantastic model of governance where there was a fair balance between welfare and develoment."
On national ambitions of the TRS, he said Chandrasekhar Rao certainly wants to bring about an alignment of not just (non-BJP, non-Congress) political parties but he wants to ensure that expectations of the common man of this country are "made a priority in Delhi."
