J-K to harness 9,000 megawatts power

Jammu and Kashmir government will harness 9,000 megawatts of electricity in the state during the 12th and 13th Five-Year plans, officials said.
"The government has drawn plans for harnessing additional 9000 MWs of power during 12th and 13th Five-Year Plans," an official spokesman said after a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah here.
Omar chaired the meeting of Consultative Committee of departments under his charge to discuss the various projects and schemes in the pipeline.
The meeting was informed that another 450 MWs will be put into the system through Baglihar Phase II by 2016, the spokesman said.
As many as 13 projects with total generation capacity of 712 MWs have been awarded and approved for allotment in 2012-13.
The spending on power purchase has swelled to Rs 3668.50 crores in 2012-13 as against Rs 1590.76 crores in 2007-08.
"Completion of Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyuti Karan Yojna Phase-II has been targeted for 2013-14 while unbundling with registration of distribution companies and filling of all positions in the companies is under the process of completion," the spokesman said.
The meeting also discussed issued relating to the Hospitality and Protocol, Civil Aviation and Information Department.
