Reiterating its strong opposition to the proposed 9,900-MW nuclear power plant in Jaitapur, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray today said his party would scrap the project if it is voted to power in the state after the October 15 assembly polls.
"Shiv Sena continues to stick to its stand against the Jaitapur nuclear power plant. If we are voted to power, we will scrap the project. We will take a decision that will be good for the Konkan region," Thackeray said while addressing a poll rally at Dapoli in the district.
In a veiled attack on BJP, the Sena President said, "Those who want this project, can take it to Gujarat. If required, Maharashtra will buy power from Gujarat."
There has been a stiff opposition to the project as local residents want it scrapped and shifted from Jaitapur in the district.
Thackeray said the Konkan region had always supported Shiv Sena. "That is why, Sena will always think good of Konkan. All the necessary steps will be initiated for the development of the region if the party comes to power.
