Janata Dal (U), a key partner in the Congress-led UDF Opposition in Kerala, today asked the state government to take immediate steps to tackle the drought situation in the state.
A meeting of party state leaders chaired by party president MP Veerendra Kumar, held here, also sought initiatives to preserve and protect water resources in the state.
The meeting asked the Centre to expedite its efforts to secure the release of Father Tom Uzhunnalil, a Keralite priest abducted nearly nine months ago by a terror group in war-torn Yemen.
JD(U) workers would observe fast at Kottayam on Tom Uzhunnalil issue in the last week of January, a party release said here today.
