Aditya Kumar Sachdeva was shot dead allegedly by Rocky Kumar Yadav, son of JD(U) MLC Manorama Devi, following a scuffle over the youngster and his friends overtaking their Range Rover SUV near the police lines here around 8 last evening.
Rocky is absconding while his history sheeter father Bindeshwari Prasad Yadav alias Bindi Yadav, known in the area for his muscle and money power, and the legislator's bodyguard have been arrested for allegedly helping the culprit escape, police said.
DIG (Magadh Range) Saurabh Kumar said Sachdeva was rushed to the Anugrah Narayan Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
Bindi Yadav, who had in the past been jailed in a sedition case and from whom police had seized 6000 rounds of ammunition of a weapon banned for public use in 2011, and Rajesh Kumar, the bodyguard of Manorama Devi, were arrested today.
The incident acquired political overtones with Leader of Opposition in the Bihar assembly Prem Kumar, who is the local MLA, saying the incident was a testimony to the "return of jungle raj" in the state.
"Bihar is burning, an atmosphere of fear pervades the state. This incident bears testimony to the return of jungle raj in the state," he said after meeting the victim's family. He also addressed a large number of protesters who had blocked the road near Mahabir bridge against the incident.
Meanwhile, K C Tyagi, a Rajya Sabha member of JD(U) from Bihar and the party's chief general secretary, said law will take its own course and those guilty will be punished.
"In the past too leaders of JD(U), RJD and other parties have been arrested (under Nitish Kumar's rule)....Law is equal for everybody and it will take its course," he said.
