Jharkhand champion in sub-junior archery

Jharkhand emerged overall champions with 10 gold, six silver and three bronze medals while Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) finished runners-up with five gold, five silver and four bronze in the 35th Sub-junior National Archery Championship here today.
Andhra Pradesh with one gold, two silver and a bronze medal was at third place in the championship that concluded here at JRD Tata Sports complex.
In the boys individual Olympic round of recurve section, Atul Verma came better off compatriot N Jemson Singh 7-3 points while Prachi Singh of Jharkhand faced a stiff challenge from G Pranitha of Telegana as both scored a tie (5-5) in girls section.
Singh, however, hit ten points in the decider to clinch the gold whereas Pranitha scored seven points.
Aman Saini (Delhi) garnered 139 points to win the gold over Lenin Oinam (Manipur), who had to content with a silver with 134 points, in the boys individual Olympic round of Compound section while Khusbu Dayal (Himachal Pradesh) emerged victorious (136 points) against Madhumita Kumari of Jharkhand (132 points), who settled for a silver medal.
In the boys team event of the recurve section, Uttar Pradesh archers comprising Vijay Kumar, Amit Yadav, Hemant Rathi and Pramod Kumar had to sweat it out for the gold medal as Steel Plant Sports Board (SPSB) archers consisting of Sunil Biruly, Sanjay Dhinor, Neel Madhav Joshi and Ayush put up a stiff contest with 4-4 set points.
Uttar Pradesh, however, scored maximum 29 points from deciding three arrow while SPSB fell one point short and had to settle for a silver.
In the girls section of the event, Prachi Singh, Sushmita Buruly, Sulekha Kumari and Anikita Bhakat representing the host team had an easy win over Nagaland 5-1 set points.
Nagaland, however, emerged champion winning gold medal when their mixed team of Somgmao L and Kilenmeren defeated SPSB's Manisha Hembrom and Sunil Biruly 5-3.
Maharashtra's Anuja Mahalaxme and Sanket Magar beat P Geethika Lakshmi and M Sai Charith of Andhra Pradesh 140-138 to win the gold medal in the compound mixed team event.
In the boys Compound team event, SSCB lost to Hayana in a closely contested encounter 215-216 to win the top spot while Jharkhand defeated Andhra Pradesh in the girls section of the event.
