The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee on Wednesday condemned the killing of five labourers from West Bengal in Kulgam district of South Kashmir, terming it a cowardly act of terrorists.

"The JKPCC has strongly condemned the killing of 5 labourers from West Bengal in Kitrusu Village of Kulgam district in South Kashmir last evening. It is a cowardly act of terrorists," a party spokesman said.

The JKPCC also expressed shock over the deaths of one civilian and injuries to some others in Pakistan shelling today.

"The poor labourers who had come all the way from West Bengal for earning their livelihoods have become the victim of senseless and cowardly act of terrorists", he said.

"The incident is shocking and the entire rank and file of the party expresses its deep sympathies with the families of the victims and pray for peace to the departed souls and early recovery to the injured," he said.

The spokesman expressed grave concern over the rising incidents of militant attacks.

The lives and property of innocent people have to be protected at all costs, he said, while lauding the commendable services of the army and security forces.

The party also condemned Pakistan for repeated unprovoked firing and sought a befitting response from the government.
