Distancing itself from the protests against spurious drug scam, a body representing Jammu and Kashmir medical employees today alleged the whole issue is being politicised to defame the state health department.
Jammu and Kashmir Medical Employees Federation (JKMEF) staged demonstration against the Doctors Association of Kashmir, which is spearheading the protests against the issue.
JKMEF president Sushil Sudan alleged politics is being done over the entire matter to target former Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma.
Sharma is currently in-charge of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control portfolio.
"Drug scam is sub-judice in the court of law. Those involved should be punished but unfortunately it is being politicised," Sudan said.
He said bad name is given to the health and medical education department and a smear campaign is being carried out.
Calling for a boycott of DAK, Sudan said the JKMEF and its other unions in Kashmir are not part of their agitation as they believe the department has done a commendable job.
The crime branch, along with the vigilance department, is probing supply of spurious drug 'amoxicillin trihydrate' to the state government, and has booked owners of the drug firm Life Line Pharmaco Surgicals, besides purchase committee officials of medical education department.
Three persons have so far been arrested in this connection.
