Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir today termed the judicial probe announced by the state government to investigate the violence in Kishtwar as an eyewash to hide the truth.
"The judicial probe announced by the state government to investigate the incident of August 9 in Kishtwar was nothing but an eyewash to hide the truth," a PDP spokesman said after a meeting of senior party leaders of the Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha segment, chaired by PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
The party observed that similar investigations announced earlier by the present coalition government resulted to nothing substantial.
"Since formation of this government in January 2009, a number of inquiries have been announced from time to time, but all such investigations ultimately proved futile," he said.
"Instead of indulging in customary exercise of announcing inquiries, the government should take strict action against the real culprits responsible for violence to restore confidence among people," he said.
Expressing anguish over the loss of lives and property in Kishtwar violence, PDP demanded all affected families be rehabilitated.
Coming down heavily on the state government, PDP leaders regretted that almost four months after the devastating earthquake in Chenab Valley, no rehabilitation has been provided.
"It is unfortunate that the present government has taken no steps after the earthquake in Chenab Valley to provide relief to the affected families," they said, demanding a comprehensive package for them before winter.
