IG (Kanpur zone) Ashutosh Pandey said, "police today took Piyush, and four other accused - driver Awadesh and three accomplices in custody for 24 hours. The accused confessed to their crime during interrogation and led the police to the spot where they had disposed of the knife with which they had murdered Jyoti."
Pandey said, "the knife was found from Kalyanpur-Panki road, the same area from where the police had recovered Jyoti's body, bearing multiple stab wounds, on the morning of July 28."
The officer said the evidence collected will strengthen the case against the accused in court.
Piyush Shyam Dasani was arrested with police claiming that he had confessed to having got Jyoti killed with the help of his driver as he was having relations with another woman.
Pandey said that the court, however, reserved its decision regarding the sending of the woman friend to police custody.
