Kamrup (Metropolitan) district Deputy Commissioner A Angamuthu has directed the health department to ensure civic and disability friendly amenities in all the hospitals here.
In a District Development Committee meeting here today, Angamathu also instructed the Inspector of Schools (IS) to take effective steps for improvement of educational standards of some government schools here as reflected in the board results.
At the meeting the DC directed the Joint Director of Health Services to take appropriate action to ensure civic amenities such as drinking water, toilet facilities and disability friendly amenities in all the hospitals in the district that encompasses Guwahati city and its suburbs.
A spokesman of the district administration said the DC also laid emphasis on inspection of all private hospitals in the light of the provisions of Health Establishment Act for better service to the citizens, specially to BPL people.
Expressing serious concern about the 'bad' performance of some State government schools in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) board examination, Angamathu instructed the IS to take effective steps for improvement of the scenario.
The SI was also directed to address issues such as adhrence to provisions of Right to Education Act in respect of private schools, transportation of school children, callous driving of school buses leading to untoward incidents, use of old buses for transporting school children and vehicle parking facilities.
The Assam Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (APDCL) official present in the meeting was also asked to ensure by January next year the raising of the level of electric transformers to a considerable higher height and barricading them to avoid untoward incidents, the spokesman added.
