The accused identified as Joga Singh, who worked as a temporary 'Pathi' (religious preacher) in the shrine, was overpowered by those present there and handed over to the police.
The Jathedar received minor injuries and was given first aid at his residence.
The attack took place when the Jathedar was on his way to his residence located within the Takht complex at Anandpur Sahab, about 30 kms from here.
The ad hoc employee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) was being interrogated, police sources said.
