Expressing concern over Muslims "fleeing" their homes to escape in riot-hit western Uttar Pradesh, Minority Affairs Minister K Rahman Khan today asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to press the state government to take immediate action.
Khan met Singh today to draw his attention to the plight of the minority community in the region, especially in the districts of Muzaffarnagar, Shamli and adjoining areas.
"He discussed in detail the law and order and the plight of the minority community, as a result of which many of them are forced to leave their homes for safer places," an official spokesperson said.
This is a very dangerous trend and might lead to communal divide, he told the PM.
"Khan requested Singh to draw the urgent attention of the UP government (to their plight) and take immediate action against the culprits and to ensure complete safety to the people," he said.
Singh assured Khan of taking all possible steps to provide full protection to the life and property of innocent people.
