Kiran Matharu sank a bridie on the last hole to card the only sub-par score on the second day and grabbed lead in the fifth Leg of the Hero Women's Professional Golf Tour, here today.
Kiran returned a card of two under 68 while overnight leader Vani Kapoor follows closely in second spot. Rookie Amandeep Drall is placed third.
Kiran played a bogey-free front nine with birdies on the 4th, 8th and 9th holes. However her back nine was a mixed bag as she dropped shots on the 12th, 13th and 17th holes, but birdies on the 10th and 18th holes helped her gain the lead on day 2. She finished the round with a total score of 138, one clear of Delhi youngster Vani.
Vani played a cautious round, carding two birdies on the 1st and 5th holes with equal number of bogies on the 3rd and 7th holes. She carded an even par 70 on the day and is followed by Panchkula's Amandeep.
Amandeep too carded an even par round of 70 with three birdies on the 4th, 11th and 16th holes. She also carded three bogies on the 3rd, 13th and 17th holes to return with a total score of 141 after 36 holes.
Sharmila Nicollet is placed fourth with a total score 143 after the second round. Sharmila carded two birdies on the 4th and 5th holes while dropping shots on the 2nd and 11th holes.
However, a double bogey on the 10th hole spoilt her score line and she finished the day with score of 2 over 72. Delhi's Gauri Monga played a bogey free front nine with birdies on the 2nd and 3rd holes. She could not sustain the momentum and carded a bogey on the 13th hole along with a double bogey on the 18th hole. She is in fifth spot with a total score of 148.
She is followed by veteran Smriti Mehra and Chandigarh's Saaniya Sharma, who are placed sixth and seventh respectively.
