Actress Kirti Kulhari says "Indu Sarkar" is the perfect next film for her after the widely successful "Pink", as it offers her a great scope to perform.
Directed by National Award winning filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, "Indu Sarkar" isbased on the Emergency, a 21-month long period from 1975 to 1977 when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi unilaterally had a state of emergency declared across the country.
Kirti plays the title role of a poetess who has speech problem.
"'Indu Sarkar' is the most ideal script in terms of coming up with next. I play the title role. I've been preparing for the stammering bit since it's very challenging. To go from somebody who has a speech problem, to somebody who doesn't. That journey has taken me a lot of time and effort and finally I am ready to shoot it," Kirti told PTI.
The "Shaitaan" actress says a lot of research has gone into the project and it will have instances from the emergency era.
"It is unconventional, set in 1975 during the emergency period. It is a film which Madhur is also very excited about. He has been researching for it since 7-8 months. There are a lot of incidents in the film from that time (emergency)."
Kirti received tremendous acclaim for her portrayal in Amitabh Bachchan-starrer "Pink". The actress feels the pressure to deliver with her next, but insists she has disconnected herself with all of this.
"I won't deny that there is no pressure. I felt a lot of it when I was getting so much praise for 'Pink'. I think I have disconnected from all the pressure. I cannot go into another film with all the pressure to 'oh my God I have to prove it again'."
"Indu Sarkar" also stars Neil Nitin Mukesh and will go on floors soon.
Kirti says she will shoot for the film till the end of January 2017 and then move on to "couple of other projects" which she will announce shortly.
