In what seemed like a surprising change behind the stumps, Virat Kohli donned the wicketkeeper's gloves for an over as captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni took an over's break during the Bangladesh innings here today.
Kohli, who has never kept wickets in any international match so far, stood a safe distance from the stumps but did his wicketkeeping duty without the pads. The reason for Dhoni's absence was not known.
It was the start of the 44th over when Kohli was seen wearing Dhoni's gloves as medium-pacer Umesh Yadav came charging in to bowl to Nasir Hossain.
The Test skipper did collect the fifth delivery from Yadav which just missed the outside edge of Mashrafe Mortaza as the over also saw Shakib Al Hasan walk back to the pavilion after being caught at backward point by Ravindra Jadeja.
Dhoni was soon back in the 45th over to take charge during the final five overs as Kohli happily trodded back to his fielding position.
There has been instances when Dhoni has taken off his keeping pads to bowl an over or two but in all those times there has been a back-up wicketkeepers like Dinesh Karthik or Rahul Dravid to take over the duties.
