The mercury in Kolkata today shot up to 40 degrees Celcius mark and Met department has said that there will not be any respite from scorching heat in the coming days.
Met department sources said there is no chance of a shower in the next one to two days and the temperature would continue to hover around 40 degrees.
Yesterday, it was recorded at 39.1 degrees Celsius.
With the next phase of Lok Sabha poll in the state slated on April 24, most candidates on the campaign trail have cut short their outdoor engagements to avoid the heat-related complications.
