KoPT officials today said that on March 12 container throughput crossed 6 lakhs TEUs, which is an all-time high record for the Kolkata dock.
In 2015-16 KDS handled 5.77 lakhs TEUs.
KoPT chairman M T Krishna Babu hoped that in the current fiscal container handling would cross 6.25 lakh TEUs.
"The figures could be achieved despite the grave operational constraints of low navigational draft in the river, unavoidable ship detentions due to lock operations of the impounded dock and tide dependence in ship movement, which all are unique to this river port," they said.
