Basharat Bashir Dar along with his younger brother Fida Hussain were on way to Srinagar when their private car collided with a minibus near Pattan, 27 kms from here, a police officer said.
Dar brothers were injured and immediately evacuated to hospital where Basharat, a lawyer by profession, was declared dead by doctors on arrival, the officer said.
Peoples Conference Chairman and Minister for Animal Husbandry Sajad Gani Lone, on hearing about the incident, rushed to Kupwara to express solidarity and sympathy with the bereaved family.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed also expressed their grief over the demise of legislator's son and expressed solidarity with Dar and other members of his family, the spokesman said.
National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, his son and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed grief over the demise of Basharat while praying for peace to the departed soul.
