The candidature of Sailo, who is the son of former chief minister Brigadier T Sailo and a retired Indian Revenue Service officer, was announced by senior party leader Kenneth Chawngliana today.
No other political parties, including the ruling Congress and opposition Mizo National Front(MNF), have announced the names of their candidates for the by-poll.
The Congress spokesperson has said the party would discuss the matter only after the return of chief minister and party chief Lal Thanhawla, who attended the AICC plenary session in Jaipur.
The MNF nomination committee chaired by former chief minister and party president Zoramthanga has yet to decide.
The by-poll was necessitated by the death of legislator Chawngtinthanga on September 16.
