"As many as 90 per cent of polling was reported in today's voting for the four seats of Legislative Council in Jammu and Kashmir," state Chief Electoral Officer Umang Narulla said.
He said no untoward incident was reported during voting in all 149 polling booths of the state, except a few complains received regarding violation of model code.
Narulla said Election Commission has appointed two observers and some micro-observers to monitor the election process.
Counting for two seats in Kashmir region will be held at Srinagar, while that for two seats of Jammu region will be held in Jammu and at respective district headquarters of Leh and Kargil on December 6, he said.
Around 27 companies of CRPF and 40 companies of police and armed police were deployed across the state, including the sensitive areas.
As per reports in a section of media in the state, Hizb-ul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin had last month said that New Delhi was "exploiting panchs and sarpanchs to project Kashmir as pro-India" and that they will "continue to be targeted no matter how much government tries to secure them."
Today's polling will decide the fate of 37 candidates in fray for four MLC seats.
J&K went for MLC polls under panchayat quota after a gap of 38 years, as the last panchayat quota elections were held in 1974.
