Addressing a press conference here today, CPI secretary Shameem Faizee said, "We do not claim that we will form the government post elections, but there will be no party with majority and hence to form the next government, there will be a heavy dependence on the Left Block.
Presenting the party's manifesto, Faizee targeted BJP's Prime Ministerial nominee Narendra Modi, alleging that he only helped the corporates flourish in Gujarat. "Modi's record is that he helped only the corporates. He allowed Gujarat to be looted and now wants the entire country to be looted."
He said that his party was committed to taking steps for restoring the freedom of expression of media. "We will curb the bids of corporate houses to take over print and electronic media to ensure freedom of expression. We will ensure that the contract system of employment of journalists is abolished and wage board is implemented to ensure transparency," he said.
CPI has fielded 72 candidates across the country. In Maharashtra, the party has fielded four candidates: Madhukar Patil (Bhiwandi), Rajan Kshirsagar (Parbhani), Namdeo Kannake (Gadchiroli) and Prakash Reddy (South Mumbai).
