A BJP MLA from Goa today alleged the "Left wing leaders" were trying to "demoralise" Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar by "using" youths like Gurmehar Kaur, a Delhi University student who is trolled over her stance against the RSS-backed ABVP.
"Indian Armed forces have given an apt reply to Pakistan through actions like surgical strike. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar have boosted morale of Indian Army.
"However, some Leftist leaders are trying to demoralise the PM and Parrikar by using youths like Gurmehar Kaur," Panaji MLA Siddharth Kuncolienkar said while addressing a 'Tiranga Yatra' organised by the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad which controls the Goa University's students wing in the state capital.
The BJP leader, who had served as the PA to Parrikar, said the youth of Goa will not allow such "divisive forces which speak of dividing the country which is our motherland, to rise in the state."
"We refer to India as our mother. How can we keep quiet when someone is trying to cut our mother into pieces?" the MLA questioned.
Kaur has been subjected to intense trolling on social media over her stance against ABVP and a video campaign advocating peace between India and Pakistan.
The 20-year-old daughter of a martyr had also complained of receiving "rape threats", following which a FIR was registered against unknown persons.
Kuncolienkar said Gurmehar was being "misguided by the Left organisations."
"She was misguided to such an extent that she started saying her father was not killed by Pakistan but was killed by war...Who forced war on us? Look at the history of India, we never invaded any country. We are a peace loving nation," he said.
