A female leopard, which had created panic among the villagers, was trapped in a cage kept by forest department officials in Kondanadu Estate, about 40 kms from here today.
The department had kept four cages in the estate after villagers and estate workers informed them that a leopard and its cub were on the prowl for the last one week.
The officials noticed a leopard, aged about four years, caught in the cage this afternoon. However, there was no trace of the cub, the department officials said.
The leopard was later taken and released in the jungles of Avalanche, 80 Kms from here, they said.
