Life imprisonment for five members of family in dowry case

Finding the five guilty of killing their daughter-in-law Muni Devi by pouring kerosene on her and setting her ablaze on August 11, 2009, the court of District and Sessions Judge (first) A K Singh imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 against them.

The convicted members are the victim's husband Sandeep Kumar Bhagat, his father Krishna Prasad Bhagat, mother Kanchan Devi, elder brother Sanjay and sister Kiran Devi.

All of them were charged under the Dowry Prohibition Act after father of the deceased lodged an FIR with the Gopikandar police station against them.

The family resides at Baranarganj in Dumka district.
