The incident occurred last night and the victim has been identified as Uche Alai Madhuka, a police official said.
Kalwa police subsequently arrested three of the youths, aged 18-19 years, said police PRO Gajanan Kabdule.
According to police, a group of six local youths stopped Madhuka and his friend who were returning home at around 9.30 last night and demanded that they part with their mobile phones and money.
As Madhuka refused, they attacked him with a bamboo stick and sharp weapons. He died while being shifted to Kalwa civic from a local hospital, police said.
As the news of Madhuka's murder spread, several Nigerians gathered at Diva and staged a protest, they added.
