While three of the nominees who filed in their papers are Independents, one each is from CPI and Democratic Secular Party (DSP).
There are 12 Assembly constituencies in Nagpur district including six in the city.
However, candidates from major stake-holders like Shiv Sena, BJP, Congress, and NCP have stayed away from filing papers so far as uncertainty prevails over continuation of their respective alliances as the solution to seat-sharing tangle nowhere in sight as of now.
The process of filing of nominations is likely to gather steam only from September 24 after the end of "pitru paksha"--a period Hindu believes is inauspicious.
The five candidates who filed their papers today are: Chandrshekhar Kahrpuria (Katol), Rajesh Thakur (Hingana), and Vinod Nitnavre (Umred)--all Independents, Shyam Kale (Hingana) of CPI and Jamil Khan Pathan of Democratic Secular Party (Kamptee), an official release said.
While Katol was won by NCP in 2009 elections, Hingna, Umred and Kamptee went to BJP.
