Maharashtra Congress chief Ashok Chavan today lashed out at the BJP-Shiv Sena government in the state alleging it has "failed on all fronts during its 20 months regime."
"Not only the law and order situation in the state has nosedived but the farmers are also in jeopardy. The Maharashtra government has failed on all fronts," Chavan, a former state Chief Minister, told reporters here.
He met local party leaders and corporators in view of the forthcoming Municipal Corporation polls.
"As the state has no full time Home Minister, there is no control of the government over the machinery and no control of the police on criminals. Nagpur is worst on this front,", the Congress leader alleged.
"BJP was sheltering the criminal tendencies and trying to seek their help in the ensuing elections," he further alleged.
As per the state Congress President, there was no relief to farmers.
"Even after Chief Minister's orders, banks are reluctant to provide crop loans. The shadow of drought still lingers as the state has not received adequate rains," he claimed, adding the government was also not serious about inflation.
Questioning the motive of the state government's plan to introduce Internal Security Protection Act, Chavan said, "there is enough room for doubt and government should bring in clarity in this regard."
To a question, Chavan said the party was in a mood to contest ensuing elections to Amravati Graduates constituency and it has received three nominations from the district unit.
"The All India Congress Committee will decide on the candidate within a fortnight," he informed.
