Average power tariff for consumers of West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (WBSEDCL) is turning dearer by 23 paise but only for those consuming more than 300 units.
"We have approved to raise the power tariff by 23 paise per unit effective from July for WBSEDCL command area based on their demand under monthly variable cost recovery mechanism," West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission officials said.
However, consumers using power up to 300 units will not be impacted as the state government has agreed to subsidise the same.
State Power Minister Shobhondeb Chatterjee had earlier said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee does not want to put burden on the poor and thus there will be no impact for consumers up to 300 units in the state.
