Maharashtra government today announced here that it is keen to implement the Maharashtra Unaided Private Professional Education Institutions (Regulation of Admission Fees) Act, 2015, from the forthcoming academic year.
An ordinance in this regard has been sent for the Governor's final approval, Maharashtra Education Minister Vinod Tawde said.
The Act which would empower the state government to regulate college fees and restrict private institutions from conducting common entrance test (CET), would be applicable to all degree, technical, medical and agriculture colleges as well as universities.
"The Maharashtra state government has passed an ordinance. A panel will now be set up under a retired high court judge, with a chartered accountant and a former vice-chancellor, who will be part of it. It will ensure that there is a fair fee structure adopted by schools," he said.
He said that the cultural department of the Maharashtra state government plans to organise a grand ceremony to honour Marathi Jnanapith awardees.
"The function will be held at the Gateway of India this Thursday. We expect around 8,000 people from across the state to attend the ceremony to cherish the literary achievements of the Marathi language," he said.
"The programme will present the works of V S Khandekar, V V Shirwadkar, G V Karandikar and B S Nemade, through various art forms," he said.
