The deceased have been identified as Sri Chand, a retired Reserve Bank of India official who lived at an apartment in Anand Vihar area, and Tript Mrignayani, who had come from Chennai to spend summer break with his maternal grandparents here, a police officer said.
The incident took place around 1.30 PM today when Chand and Tript were heading somewhere on the former's scooter when a speeding chartered bus hit their vehicle.
The driver of the bus and his helper fled the spot leaving behind the vehicle there and they could not be tracked down yet, the official said.
Police reached the owner of the bus through its registration number and he helped ascertaining the identity of the errant driver.
The vehicle also serves as a school bus on weekdays, the official added.
