Man arrested for allegedly raping inmate of old age home

A 60-year-old woman was allegedly raped at an old age home in Chhattisgarh's Raipur district, police said.
The accused, identified as Sapan Pramanik (49), was arrested today, station house officer of Mana police station Virendra Shrivastav told PTI.
The incident took place on August 6, when last rites of another woman inmate who committed suicide were being held.
While others were attending the rites, the accused found the victim alone in a room and allegedly raped her, the SHO said.
Pramanik had recently moved into the shelter home for destitute families which stands on the premises of the old age home with his wife and child.

The victim told police that she was in a state of shock after the incident and therefore did not tell anybody about it. But later she felt she must report it so that it does not happen with any other inmate.
Pramanik has been booked for rape under section 376 of the IPC. Probe is on.
