The incident took place when the victim, identified as Shahnawaz, was returning home on his motorcycle along with his two children.
As they reached Turkman gate, the bike hit an i-20 car.
An argument ensued between the occupants of the car and the motorcyclist, which soon turned ugly with Shahnawaz beaten up badly. He was later taken to the nearest hospital where he was declared dead, police said.
Soon after the incident, tension prevailed in the area as locals protested alleging police inaction in the case.
"We have registered a case of murder and investigations are on. We are examining CCTVs installed in the area to identify the assailants," said a senior police official.
