According to an FIR filed in the police station by the family members, Monglu Porza of Panbari village was picked up by a police patrol party deployed for anti-insurgency operation in the area last night after a case filed against him.
The FIR claimed that the man was seriously ill and was kept the whole night with the police patrol party, which was busy in anti-insurgency operation instead of being taken to the police station.
Condemning the incident as a case of human rights violation, All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA) and Assam Tea Tribes Students Association (ATTSA) demanded a fair probe into the incident and exemplary punishment to the police personnel allegedly involved with the case.
Sonitpur Superintendent of police Sanjukta Parashar said a case has been registered on the basis of the FIR and investigation is on.
